    1. Re: [TRIVVIES] Question
    2. Geo.
    3. Well, my geography is a bit rusty but the lines of longitude were determined by the folk at Greenwich Observatory way back when. The earth makes one revolution in 24 hours so they divided the 360 degrees of the circumference of the earth into 24 equal areas marked by a line of longitude with the 0 degree line running through the Observatory. The major lines are thus 15 degrees or one hour apart which is why time zones change by one hour for each 15 degrees of longitude. Of course, you can split each 15 deg. section into as many smaller segments as you wish. The Equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are determined by the oscillation of the earth based if I remember right on when the sun is directly overhead at mid-day at each extreme with the Equator being equi-distant between the Tropics. I don't know who first decided to mark lines of latitude on the globe but they are based on the number of degrees north or south of the Equator which is at 0 degs. with the major lines being at 2 degree intervals I think. I expect Google would be able to give much more accurate info. but I can't be bothered looking on account of it's bedtime. <g> Geo. Who put the Equator - where the equator is .. ? .... In other words - who set the north-south divide .. ? .... Who put the lines of latitude and longitude where they are - i.e. North / South .. ? ....... The world is round - so these places could have been put anywhere ... Couldn't they .. ? .... Sue In pondering mood ...

    3. Sue If we are talking roast dinners then we too would prefer chicken. We thought we might get there about 10am so that we get a good chance to look round before any train rides. Thanks Howie for the train times. If anyone gets a copy of June's Railway Modeller there was a 20% discount "on all admissions" ticket on page 9 inside the leaflet called "On the Rails 2006 - Directory of Railway Attractions". Return tickets are £9.50 per Adult - magazine is £3. A trip on the railway would be nice. A round trip is possible (either way round) starting from Winchcombe at 11.40 and returning at 13.40. Cars can be parked at the station, handy for getting into town for lunch as the station is about 3/4-mile from the centre... Howie <hugs>

    3. Hi Marlene, That's exactly what happens in my garden -- the wallflowers come up year after year (I guess no-one's told them they're only supposed to last two years LOL). I only dig them out when they become too woody and spread out. By that time (hopefully) they have seeded themselves -- but this isn't always the case. Then I go and buy some more. Can't be without them. 3. I`m sure you wont either! Have a lovely time, wish I could be there Val xx Having a pretty quiet time so far Val, mainly shopping with Linda, although at the weekend was up in the Telford area [Shropshire] with Linda and G'dau Maria [last year's bride], spending time with Linda's long time friends [my 'adopted dau and son'] Pat and Dave. Hence on Tues when B D said there had been a big Quake in Wellington my reply was "Which One ??" as there is a Wellington in the Telford area . On the way back we stopped and spent the night at Maria and Andy's home in Milton Keynes, and going back to Chesham very early Sunday morn, saw Wallabies and Deer in the lovely area between Dunstable and Berkhampstead, and baby rabbits ..that were dicing with their lives glad we were the only car on the road at that time, so they were quite safe. Have to catch up on family visiting and some research up in London. Will pass on Hugs to any Trivvies that I meet up with, and I'm sure if I do forget they will ask why I haven't done as you have asked :-))))), being a keeper of the Elephants I'm sure I won't forget though Hugs Marlene ```````````````````````````````` Thanks for the hugs Marlene, hope you are having a good time. When you see Sue give her a hug from me please, also all the Trivvies that you see!
