    3. If the spillage is drying quickly, I squeeze more water on it to dilute it and avoid it sticking too much and then initially mop it up with kitchen paper. I know you end up with liquid over the whole surface but it prevents too much drying/burning on the heated zone and will clean up more easily. <hugs> Miriam www.pagetdesigns.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------------- All outgoing emails scanned by Norton Antivirus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3. Many thanks George ... My education was either very lacking - or I was absent that day ... Geography was never my strong subject though ... All of what you said makes sense - I think .. :-) ..... Thanks again ... Sue Well, my geography is a bit rusty but the lines of longitude were determined by the folk at Greenwich Observatory way back when. The earth makes one revolution in 24 hours so they divided the 360 degrees of the circumference of the earth into 24 equal areas marked by a line of longitude with the 0 degree line running through the Observatory. The major lines are thus 15 degrees or one hour apart which is why time zones change by one hour for each 15 degrees of longitude. Of course, you can split each 15 deg. section into as many smaller segments as you wish. The Equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are determined by the oscillation of the earth based if I remember right on when the sun is directly overhead at mid-day at each extreme with the Equator being equi-distant between the Tropics. I don't know who first decided to mark lines of latitude on the globe but they are based on the number of degrees north or south of the Equator which is at 0 degs. with the major lines being at 2 degree intervals I think. I expect Google would be able to give much more accurate info. but I can't be bothered looking on account of it's bedtime. <g> Geo.

    3. Don't put the lid on too tight ... Ours never boil over ... BUT - my advice would be - mop it up as soon as it does boil over - don't wait until it's cold - it comes off the saucepan and spoons much easier if it's hot ... Sue Why do I let the pasta boil over - no matter what my intentions I often take my eyes off the pan at the crucial moment. And I hate cleaning that mess of the ceramic hob- has anyone got any tips for cleaning it? What do you use, or am I the only stupid whatsit that does this Liz

    3. I have one Liz . .. and love it . .. precisely because of those boil-overs. Used to absolutely HATE cleaning the old gas or electrical elements after a spill. If the pasta, rice or potatoes boil over (which they invariably do in this house) I usually do a quick mop up with a damp cloth (just to stop the sizzling). Then when I've finished cooking and the top is cool, I use a razor blade scraper (one of those small, hand held gadgets that enclose a single edged razor blade). By holding it angled quite flat against the surface, I can scrape off the baked on "stuff". Wipe over with a damp cloth to pick up the charred remains -- then use a ceramic top cleaner. <which reminds me, I need to buy some more> A few dollops of the cream applied in firm circular motions all over the cooker's surface with a damp paper towel. .. really work it into the spill areas. Then polish off with a clean paper towel ... et voila. A good as new cooker top. 3. Goodness…….what happened in there overnight?? DiDi http://photobucket.com/albums/d100/didi_45 From The Times, 09 Oct 1817, posted with permission of the transcriber, Petra Michinson. Geo. On Sunday evening, a boy, about twelve years of age, fell asleep during divine service in St. Mary's Church, in Carlisle; and when the congregation retired he was unconsciously left there the whole night! When found next morning he was senseless from fright, and he still continues in a state of extreme danger. Should his health be restored, he is not likely to recover his intellects. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <http://ads.smartgroups.com/adclick/cid=fffffffcfffffffcfffffffc> If you want to share pictures, use the calendar, or start a questionnaire visit http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/trivvies To leave the group, email: trivvies-unsubscribe@smartgroups.com <mailto:trivvies-unsubscribe@smartgroups.com> Report abuse <http://www.smartgroups.com/text/abusereport.cfm?gid=1723090&mid=4285>

I couldn't open it with Adobe Acrobat 5.5 but it was OK with Adobe Reader 7. He also has two other books available on-line. One, 'The Household Cyclopedia' is also a downloadable '.pdf' file. The other, which is most interesting, is 'The Percy Anecdotes'. Lots of interesting articles in that one.
