    3. i vote that the restaurant provide a large lazy susan or conveyor belt be installed at the table...where upon, every five minutes a nameless trivvie will yell SWITCH and all plates will move to the right. there shall also be no food fighting, however tossing tidbits of tasties into the open mouth of a waiting trivvie at the other end or side of the table is perfectly allowable. roz - off to perfect her peeping baby bird mouth look...and wondering just how far a trivvie can toss a tastie tidbit. dibs on all seafood and steaks. 1. Re: [TRIVVIES] Comments Please - 1911 Census
    2. Geo.
    3. Well, I guess if anyone knows where the truth lies it will be the National Archives. After all, they *have* the documents. That news was posted only a few days ago. It also says that the census will be made available on-line "on the first working day of 2012". To be able to make that claim one has to believe they have thoroughly assessed the suitability of the originals. The information from Rod Neep is a year old and it isn't very likely that he saw the files for himself. Presumably he was given that information by what he believed to be a reliable source. Geo. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/stories/110.htm?homelink=news I've just read this article - where it says thus --- Quote:- The 1911 census is a huge document - more than 12 times the size of the 1901 census, with 35,000 volumes containing the details of our 35 million ancestors and occupying some 2 kilometres of shelving. They are in good condition and suitable for scanning, with less than 5 per cent requiring more extensive conservation work to be scanned safely. In addition there are also 38,000 volumes of enumerators´ summary books that are in excellent condition. These are likely to be included in the online project as they contain useful and unique information that supports the census information. However, they do not provide the level of personal details that can be found in the actual census schedules. End of quote .. For the past few years - I've been led to believe that this Census was in a terrible" state - & that access to anything useful would be fairly negligible ... http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:ZNZAOHKT3-4J:www.british-genealogy com/forums/showthread php%3Ft%3D4656+1911+census+neep&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=2 What are we to believe .. ? ... Who will tell us the truth .. ? ........ Sue Puzzled in Nottingham

    3. I have theory but I think it is to do with hygiene. As to why we wear trousers now it is far more comfortable and I have not worn a skirt for about 10yrs now......I do not even own one. Oh I tell a lie.......about 3 yrs ago bought a denim skirt....wore it once...was darn uncomfortable I sold it on Trade Me DiDi http://photobucket.com/albums/d100/didi_45 Question for you .... Why do women wear dresses & skirts .. ? ...... I know - today - women - more often than not - do wear trousers - these days - but - in my youth - it wasn't all that common to see - & women wore dresses / skirts ... I've just watched "The Sound of Music" and all the women in Austria were dresses / skirts --- so I just wondered why ... 3. ME ........... sorry I meant to pass this news on to the List last week .... but I have been in a state of semi procrastination, OK laziness [tied up with other matters]~~ so here is what Linda and I done last Wednesday ~~~ a total waste of a day except for one item of news. It took over 3hours to get to Kew - 5 changes on the underground, an expensive GBP3.90 to 'spend a penny' and including a ten minute walk. spent ages trying to find records to no avail, but I did mention to the one really helpful assistant about how dissapointed I was that the 1911 census was not going to be available, and she informed me that She had seen the records ..yes the room is musty and some need some work done on them ... and it has just been a rumour that there was not going to be one. I went back and told Linda so we decided it was worth the visit just for that news. Journey home was almost as long, easier but because of Signal failures as many changes cos we missed the Algate to Chesham tube train. Had hoped we could have done a couple of other places will try and get back to London this week. I even forgot to pick up vouchers for the 1901 census. Since Ancestry.com took it over I have not had much luck finding names ...often tells me no such person, when I know there is.
