    3. I hope they do change their minds, I have heard on my B & S list that they have stopped at C. Caused me no end of problem with that list, I had it all set up to go into it's own folder and it now keeps going into my Inbox. I have set it up again, and no matter what I do the messages still get into the Inbox and the List folder. No I haven't put it to copy, but to move. I have made rules for both "from" and "to" and still I'm missing something somewhere! GRRRRRRR Now that's off my chest I feel slightly better! Day off today and going down to my brother's ex ex ex girlfriend's tea garden on the Somerset Levels at Godney. http://www.theolddairybarn.co.uk/ Bring that cream tea on. Can't wait. 3. Posted with permission of the transcriber, Ann Selchick. Geo. <Seventy miles over rough country in something less than two days? Strewth!> THE WEST CUMBERLAND NEWS, Nov. 21, 1931 MENTAL PATIENT'S ESCAPE ____ Captured After 70 Miles Lakeland Walk. A mental patient who has escaped from Rosthwaite, Keswick, on Monday, was captured on Tuesday at Mockerkin by Mr. Joseph KENNON, Waterloo Street, Cockermouth, and Mr. F. LITTLE, gamekeeper to Major IREDALE. The patient had tramped over 70 miles through the valleys of the Lakeland, having walked over Honister Pass through Buttermere by the edge of Crummock Lake. The patient called at Kirkstyle and was there put into a barn overnight. The attendants of the patients were informed but on their arrival the patient had 'flown' having walked over Fangs Brown to Mockerkin. There Mr. KENNON and Mr. LITTLE noticed the patient, who was in possession of a large stick and was disporting in a field doing curious tricks. With great difficulty the men persuaded the patient to accompany them across the fields to the road where a car was waiting. Eventually the patient settled in the car and was driven back to Rosthwaite. The patient was suffering from Religious mania.

    2. Geo.
    3. Posted with permission of the transcriber, Ann Selchick. Geo. THE WEST CUMBERLAND NEWS, Nov. 21, 1931 DEALDY HEN-RUN MARAUDER Mystery Massacre at Maryport. ______ Sixteen pullets belonging to Mr. KENDALL, Grasslot Street, Grasslot, Maryport, were killed overnight by a marauder the identity of which is not definitely known. The pullets, which were of a good Wyandotte laying strain, were housed in a new hen cote and enclosure in Grasslot pit-yard, the efforts of much months of labour and considerable capital expenditure. Mr. Joseph KENDALL lost his work when St. Helen's Colliery closed some time ago, and his son, assisted by his father and mother, began the poultry enterprise. Twenty-five pullets were reared from six hatchlings, to be practically wiped out in one deadly visit just at a time when they were almost ready to begin laying, and when the demand for eggs is best. The way in which the heads of the pullets were bitten excludes the possibility of a weasel, ferret or stoat having done the work; and opinion varies between a particularly daring fox, and a vicious hen killing dog; with the bulk of opinion of those who understand how the various animals attack hens favoring the latter theory. _________________

    3. Imagine a family of perhaps 6 or 7 and in some cases, maybe a dozen or even more living in a room 12ft. by 14ft. Bear in mind that this space would be reduced by whatever furniture they possessed. Geo. P.S. Been there*, done that, couldn't afford the tee-shirt. * not exactly 'there' but in similar accomodation. 2. Geo.
    3. Posted with permission of the transcriber, Ann Selchick I can only say that it never 'took on' in Cumberland, my clogs always had steel caulkers and that was in the '40s. Geo. THE WEST CUMBERLAND NEWS, Nov. 21, 1931 HIS SLEEPING DRAUGHT OF FOOTSTEPS. ____ There is one sidelight on the cessation of the Setaway which is interesting. One resident in Senhouse Street professes that he has not slept soundly since the clogs ceased to clatter up the street on return from the afternoon shift and the way to the morning shift. He may never sleep easily again. The reason is the popular idea which has developed in Bolton of caulkering clogs with rubber instead of steel may be reproduced in Maryport at any time. It is stated to have increased the sales of clogs in Lancashire enormously. ________________________

    3. I know I'm only the "Sprog" here but it's nice to know you're all thinking of us today. It's going to be a normal day as we both have to work and we'll be going out somewhere for a bite to eat tonight. We won't be celebrating as such until next year when we can combine it with a couple of "Round number" birthdays. Thanks everyone for your kind wishes. Simon in Jormany and Linda, also in Jormany.
