The passenger manifests have alot of information on them including birthplaces and villages of orgin. Visit NARA's web site on the net, and it will explain soundex codes to find the necessary indices, as well as what they have available. The local Family History Center sponsored by the Mormons also has pamphlets on how to start your search. I'm a beginner too, but believe me, once you pull up a couple of things, it becomes very exciting and worth the digging! Good luck, Bonnie Cieslukowski Weissman
