I am a little vague about the details but I recall that an allied force continued fighting in Russia even after the end of World War I. It was supposed to be secret (possibly the reason for a reluctance to discuss it) and it is posssible that your grandfather was a part of this ecpeditionary force. You would have to do a little historical research on this phase of Russian history for more details. I suspect that many contemporary accounts would show a strong bias toward one side or the other. djm in Ann Arbor
