Hi Thomas, I must say I had quite a bit of good luck in researching in PA. I only knew my grandfather name and the approx.date of when he died. My grandfather I knew was born in Poland, but I also wanted to know when my grandparents got married. He died when my father was 2, so little was known. I wrote one general letter and sent it out to the Register of wills and clerk of orphans courts in all the counties. Don't waste time with phone calls, one call told me they had no record, but by mistake I sent a letter to the Somerset County Court. I couldn't believe it when a letter came back and told me that they had it. I was so happy! I also sent letters to the historical & genealogical soc. and they found the death cert. for me. ST John Cantius was another story. I knew my father and his sibblings were baptized there, but after numerous letters ( always sent a check & self addressed envelope) that went unanswered, on trip to PA I decided to stop by there. What a shock on the sect. face when I introduced myself. You would think that she really would have had to dig deep, when in fact, behind her desk she pulled the big ledger out. There was all my info!! I haven't received the birth cert. as of yet, but I found a family in PA, and just recently, one in Poland. Good Luck in your search!
