I lucked out with the help of another listmember and the secretary at the St. John Cantius Church in Chicago. I sent a copy of my grandparents marriage certificate from the church, and today I received a photocopy of a document which included the names of my maternal great-grandparents. Also on the document are the places of baptism. The document is in latin, but it's obvious that this is the best thing I've come across since finding their marriage certificate in the attic.
