In a previous article, fonzie@GTE.NET ("Kathryn C. Parker") says: >Hi gen-slav group, >Recently just received my g.mthr's declaration of intention. She was age 52 > when she >applied for citizenship, had been in the US for nearly 40 years. Per my mother > she >could not read nor write much. The form is typewritten and shows her maiden > name to >have been CZECHOSZ from Strachocin Nowy Poland. However, all of her other > records >show her name to be CIKACZ, including photographs of the CIKACZ headstone of her >mother in Strachocin Nowy Poland. Is it most likely that the clerk fowled this > up, or >is this a lead that needs to be pursued? Any thoughts or advice welcome. Thanks Since this is the declaration of intention, was by chance the name of the ship mentioned which brought her to America? I would check the passenger list and see how the name appears on the manifest. That would show the most likely spelling of the name at the time she left Europe. The name on the passenger list may well have been copied from the official passport or traveling documents. -- Gary N. Deckant bs039@yfn.ysu.edu Youngstown, Ohio
