I am interested in researching the Kazuby, descendants of Slavic Pommeranians who once lived in the area west of Gdansk, Poland. The main town is Kartuzy. The Kashubian dialect is the oldest of all Polish dialects, but is not as developed as the Polish language itself. (This info from book "Polish Roots" by Rosemary A. Chorzempa, published by the Genealogical Publishing Co Inc..) My maternal great grandmother Bertha Reknagel and her elders lived in the area from about 1780 to at least 1858 in Przewoz on Lake Gladzno, 14 km south of B,tow. At one time the Kashubs numbered about 200,000 people. Also spelled Cassoub; Kassoub; Kashubs Any info, bibliography, references will be appreciated. Thanks Ernie in Detroit
