In my e-mail software, I press the Function Key and the Alt Key at the same time and then enter the numberic code on the number keys. I use the same codes in MS Word and in Power Translator Professional for German. Try the following: If the first column under "Character" has anything other than a letter with a diacritical mark or a fraction, then your software or email provider does not pass ASCII characters.
