In general, Doukhobors do not have a written tradition and therefore do not keep records of births, marriages and deaths. It is very difficult for him to find out anything substantial about his ancestors. Also, his patronym (Demoskoff) is a made up name because an ancestor of his, in Russia, changed it to avoid the draft (it went from being a Russian sounding name to a Polish sounding one, then once in Canada, underwent a couple more changes).
