We were talking about the average Yank's familiarity with European geography. That's more an issue of interest & attitude than of intelligence. As I am a native Yank, I don't have the foggiest notion of what a Slovincian is. Nor do probably most of the Yanks on this newsgroup. To believe otherwise would be naive, I think. I didn't learn until I was in my early 40s that England, Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales are no long separate European nations. You would certainly never guess that from watching any broadcast of the average national network news here. We don't know about European geography because so far in our history, it hasn't really been relevant to our lives. An ocean on both shores can make for a lot of apathy about some things...
