Looking for information on Karaffa surname. My grandfather, John (or Janos) Karaffa, was born in the Kocise or Presov area in about 1894. He apparently came to the U.S. in about 1910, settling first in Plattsburgh, New York and ending up in Weirton, West Virginia by 1919 (where he worked in steel mills). The only thing my mother can remember about his family is that he had a brother who went to Russia about the same time (1910). He was apparently trying to keep away from the Austria-Hungarian draft authorities.
