There are no Passenger Lists remaining for Castle Garden. >> Not true. The following NARA series of microfilms are of the ARRIVAL RECORDS for the Port of New York, when the *processing station* (such as it was, being run by the city of New York) was Castle Garden. What there IS NOT, is an index or soundex for these years which allows finding of people by name. As is always true for immigrant passenger arrival records, or customs manifests in earlier years, the critical data for finding someone is knowing the PORT, the ARRIVAL DATE, and the SHIP NAME -- because the records are microfilmed in chronological order by PORT. Indexes to determine this critical data have been prepared for some dates, but not all. The processing station has no relevancy for identifying and obtaining the record via microfilm because NARA did not use this in organizing HOW the arrival records were filmed. SEE http://www.archives.gov/research_room/genealogy/immigrant_arrivals/passenger_r ecords.html#nothave Part 5: Available 1800-1959 Immigration Records New York, New York (also known as "Ellis Island" and "Castle Garden"), 1820-1957 and 1892-1924 Port of New York, New York, 1820-1957 NARA Microfilm Publications 1820-1897: Click here for descriptions and roll lists of microfilmed passenger arrival records for 1820-1897. Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, NY, 1820--1897. M237. 675 rolls. DP. (A complete list of rolls has been added). The above indicates there are 675 rolls of microfilms of ***passenger lists*** from vessels arriving at the PORT of New York for the years 1820 to 1897. Thus it is inclusive of passengers who were processed at Castle Garden. There is only an index available for the years 1820-1846 in Series M261 consisting of 103 films. --Index to Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, NY, 1820--1846. M261. 103 rolls The next index for PORT of New York begins June 16, 1897 on Series T519 in 115 rolls. Thus there is a gap in INDEXES from 1846 to June 1897. There is no gap for the **actual passenger arrival records** -- all one needs is the date of arrival and ship name to get the right microfilm and view it.
