Being new to trying to trace my family history, I need a little help. My grandparents were from Poland, fought in the war and settled in the UK afterwards. Like so many, they didn't like to talk about their past. It has been several years since they have past away, and as I was only a child when they were alive I didn't get to ask all the questions I would have like to. So if anyone could help or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it greatly. I've been to many web sites and read a bit, but still get the impression that I'm not getting anywhere. Ideally I would like to trace back to the birth certificates knowing that my grandfather lived in the Torun district of Poland. I guess he was born around the year 1910 give or take a few years, and know the names of his brothers and surname - Michalowski. Along with this I know of his marriage to his Polish bride in Italy during the war so I don't know if any record of this would still be in existance. As nearly all of the community they lived in (Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, UK) have now died this is really a dead end. If any of these details ring a bell or if anyone has had a similar problem then please could you send me some details as to how to proceed as I don't want this side of my family history to die out. Thanks in advance, Rob G
