    1. Old Church Slavonic Document
    2. I have a photocopy of my grandmother's birth record from Wola Niechcicka, Poland from 1891. I was under the impression that it was written in Russian but have had a few translators state that it is not. I have had a suggestion that it could be Old Church Slavonic but I have no means of determining this. I do not know if the area where my grandmother was born had an evangelical lutheran church or if the record was found in a Catholic Church. Would anybody be able to direct me to where I could find out where people registered in that area (south of Piotrkow Trybunalski) and what the language is?? I live in an area that has relatively few resources. Please respond to my e-mail address..Thanks!! -- Posted using Reference.COM http://www.reference.com Browse, Search and Post Usenet and Mailing list Archive and Catalog. 1. Re: Naturalization
    2. Good day Constant Christuk, I noticed earlier today your response dated 4 Mar, 1997 to the GEN-SLAVIC mail list, which I received on the soc.genealogy.slavic newsgroup in which you commented > >In a follow up to Anne-Marie=92s recent worthy note in regards to obtain= >ing >Naturalization documents in Massachusetts, the following recently acquir= >ed >information may be useful to others seeking similar data in their own sta= >tes. >The copies originated from the Naturalization Service which was under the >jurisdiction of the U. CircuitCourt in which the ancestor does...declare on oath,...intention to become a citizen...and renounce...particularly to William Emperer (sic) of Prussia...signed by my ancestor and dated and signed by the Clerk of Circuit Court. That's all there was to the form. As it was issued only a few months after his arrival from Prussia it would not have contained any information about any other certificates and it was not very informative other than a humorous side note. I often refer to some of my ancestors as "peasants", good naturedly of course. On this form the penmanship of my ancestor was clearly very good compared to the clerk of court who couldn't even spell "Emperor" correctly. John Birkholz zlohkrib@aol.com last year I couldn't spell jeanealogist, now I am one! soc.genealogy.german

    1. What's a "Ka~thner"?
    2. Tom Milke
    3. Dear All, I've found a marriage record for my great-grandmother, Anna Kuffel, in village of Topolno(Peppeln), Kreis Schwetz, West Prussia, 1854. Although it's difficult to read, a co-worker who was raised in Germany believes one entry to indicate that she was the daughter of a "kathner" (umlaut over the 'a'). This co-worker also has a vague recollection of a poem that had this word in it. I've been unable to find the word in German dictionaries at the library. Does anyone know what this is? Or the poem? Best regards, and TIA, Tom Milke in Maryland MILKET1@WESTAT.COM http://members.aol.com/txmilke/index.htm

We should state here that we have No Research available, and would not be able to help you obtain any information about any particular ocean voyage. We also cannot supply ship histories and do not have any database of passenger names to help find out when your ancestors may have traveled. If you are interested in acquiring an Original piece of memorabilia from the ship that your are researching; please send us an E-Mail at catalogs@pobox.com and request a copy of our most recent catalogs. These free catalogs can only be sent to you by return E-Mail, we cannot send out free printed catalogs, Please keep in mind that it is extremely unlikely that you will ever see anything from the particular voyage that you have in mind, but you may be able to own a piece of history from that ship or shipping company that an ancestor traveled on. So while it may not be the correct voyage or even the exact year, it really is possible for you to acquire something to treasure. The free catalog lists a great many items, but we have many, many more that are not listed on our catalogs at present. If you send us an E-Mail stating the name of the ship you are interested in we can send you free of charge by e-mail a quote of memorabilia available from those ships. It would be most helpful to us if you could tell us which newsgroup you saw our posting in. 2. Siecinski
    3. A notice was posted in the LDS FHL in Pittsburgh that, I assume, applies to the whole country. Effective March 1, 1997, the price for loaning microfilms has increased to $3.50 for 60 days. Films may be renewed for another 60 days for $3.50. Thus all loans will be for the same period with renewal an option. The short-term and long-term options are no longer available. 1. Naturalization
    2. Constant Christuk
    3. In a follow up to Anne-Maries recent worthy note in regards to obtaining Naturalization documents in Massachusetts, the following recently acquired information may be useful to others seeking similar data in their own states. The copies originated from the Naturalization Service which was under the jurisdiction of the U. S. Department of Labor. In this particular case the years were in the 1920s. The DECLARATION OF INTENTION ( form 2203 ) gives information about the subject including name, age, physical description, occupation, birth, address prior immigration, marital status, spouses name, present residence; passenger ship information as name, port from which ship sailed, date of sailing and date of arrival in specified US port. The CERTIFICATE OF ARRIVAL- FOR NATURALIZATION PURPOSES has brief information giving the "Name of alien for permanent admission," date of arrival and manner of arrival ( ships name ). The PETITION FOR NATURALIZATION ( form 2204-L ) offers subjects name, birth, present address and former in foreign country; ships name, from which port sailed and date and US port entered with date. Also, names and birth dates of subjects family members. The OATH OF ALLEGIANCE is mainly a declaration to renounce allegiance to the subjects former country, states the subjects Certificate of Naturalization No and the date Certificate was issued. The preceding described documents were obtained February, 1997. Photocopy charge is $7.00 per item. Suggest a 4 x 10 envelope for SASE as documents are fairly large. It is not known whether all Massachusetts counties are included in the following address: Supreme Judicial Court Archives and Records Preservation 1300 New Court House BOSTON MA 02108

The entry is for the birth of a son Janos on Jan 28, 1901 in Batyok in house #27(now Backovik where my family comes from). The father was Janos Bugos/Kacmar Gr Cath;Mother: Anna Miklos Gr. Cath. Two god parents also from Batyok: Janos Bodonski and Anna Godus(?) from the Ev. Church. It appears that this Janos was my grandfather's Ondrej's brother(B:Nov 22,1831; M: Feb 10,1857 to Alzbeta Novak/Jevak from Secovce). The Kacmar that we knew in the US was John with his father's name of Michael, who had only one daughter and she was a professional Opera singer at the Met and elsewhere.
