I am looking for anyone who has pictures from St. Paul's Croatian Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio. My mother went to school there and graduated from the 8th grade around 1915-16. Specifically, when she graduated from the 8th grade it happened to be an anniversary of the church (50th?) and a booklet was published. Her graduating class was pictured. MIKE: Stara Sil' (Polish Staraso~l) is in the administrative district of Stary Sambor. The judicial district is at Staraso~l. (Apparently in Ukraine). Both the Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic churches are at Staraso~l. This information is taken from Brian Lenius' Genealogical Gazetteer of Galicia. (pages A-144 and C-450) Staraso~l is in the diocese of Przemysl.

Frank, I found your town Plawo. Yes, it is north/northeast of Mielec. It is just southeast of the small town of Brzyscie which I am researching. I think, however, that there is a river running between these two small villages. I ordered a film from the FHC on births/marriages for Brzyscie which is incorporated in the parish of Gawluszowice (0948577 and 0948578). In the parish were records for neighboring towns of Rozniaty/Keblow/Krzemienica/Wala Zdakowska/Kliszow/Mlodowa/Borki/Babicha/Chrzaslow/Ostrowny. I do not remember Plawo being in there. Since this village was across the river, I think it may be in another parish. I received the name of the parish of Gawluszowice from Kathi White. She is president of a polish society in Buffalo. You might try e-mailing her for information. Her address I believe is "Frombufalo@aol.com". If you don't e-mail her and get back to me, I will e-mail her as I think I also need records for the area around Plawo because.... I also have Milos in my family. Martinus Szkotnicki and Agnes Milos, daughter of Johan and Francisca Milos had a few children baptized and married in Brzescie in the parish of Gawluszowice (1822-1870). Hi, my grandfather has passed away. He would not reveal his background to relatives. He may have been slavic, we're not sure. He served in US Army as Marfian Joseph Zintschuk from 5/25/1918 to 8/19/1919. He was overseas Sept 14,1918 to Aug 13,1919. War injuries left him wounded for life & was honorably discharged Camp Devons, MA on 8/19/1919. We traced the name back to what was referred to as the "white Russian border" but we are unclear if that border was considered Russian or German due to war. His name was changed on war records on May 29,1921 to Joseph John Martin. papers signed by Gen Vahan Vartanian. His VA file number is 1527516. and his address on papers indicated Wood St, Box 91, Lexington, MA as his then address. Can you help with our search? Please EMAIL me. thanks.

There are versions of this suffix in most of the Slavic cultures, and various transliterations from the Cyrillic alphabet appear in English. Some alternate spellings include: vich, wich, witz, vic', vych, etc. I believe that the Lithuanian equivalent is -vicius, or something similar. Note that no original Polish words contain the letter "V". Thus the suffix - kevicz is either not Polish or is a corrupted spelling. Hope this helps. Joe

Later it became parts of Poland, Ukraine, and by conquering-parts of Germany and Russia. Today this region is split between Krachow, Poland and Southwestern Ukraine(ie. L'viv).
