    3. In a previous article, ipoehls@wgn.net ("Irvin F. Poehls") says: > >I note that many Czech surnames, such as Cizek, end in -ek. Is there a >meaning or significance to the suffix, -ek? > As a final syllable it is not all that significant. It is a common termination of nouns in general, not just with surnames. Often it occurs with nouns denoting persons, human beings, but that is just a vague generality. Note this however, that in surnames, -ek names are males only. When such surnames are appied to females, the "e" is dropped and ova' (long "a" with accent mark) is added. So... Cizek (male) Cizkova' (female) Capek (male) Capkova' (female) Marek (male) Markova' (female) etc. -- Gary N. Deckant bs039@yfn.ysu.edu Youngstown, Ohio

She had the baby, but Mr. Bobik didn't see him until he was 4 or 5 because he was away fighting in the war. When he finally came home...the boy, his son was afraid of him. Fortunately everything worked out fine. He was a very nice man,and they were a nice family. I'll have to ask my mother his first name. Susan Lynch

    3. Hello to all, Slave Isusu Hristu; I'm interested in finding as many of my relations as possible. I have done pretty well from my Gr-grandfather, John Bobik 1st and his wife Zuzana Jergetchic. Both born in early 1840's. Their children were, Mary, Anna, John 2nd, Michael and an Andy. John the 1st had a brother who married a woman with the last name of Binyo. I have no information on that part of the family or if they had any other brothers or sisters. Mary above married into the Koleszar family line. Anna married into the Repas line. John 2nd married a Filo. His son John 3rd married a Girman and settled in NJ. Michael married ? and had two sons who became priest and stayed in Slovakia area. Andy may have been Julius and settled outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I have been gathering info on the above but not much on Andy/Julius Bobik. Need some tie upp with my Gr-Uncle's side of the family. Thanks Emil G. Bobik, Sr.

Since we have quite a few names from this area, we decided to see if we can join with other people researching in the same area and see if we can all help each other. I have seen this work for people on other lists I have been on and am hoping it will also work for us. Annie
