How do I contact Statute of Commune Lastovo [Lagosta] Croatia, for genealogical records. From family information: Grandparents, Antun and Ana [Sagor] Maricevic, came to the USA, living in NYC, ca. 1907-1913, when they returned to the native land, the Isle of Lastovo. The Isle Lastovo has seen many changes, first Austria, Italy, Yugoslavia, and now Croatia. My father Joseph [Jozo] was the only one of 3 children to return to the USA, at age 21, and he d. 1986, in TX. I would like to find out more family information, birth records of his parents, Antun, d. 1957, Ana, d. 1960, on the Isle Lastovo, where they were born. Grandfather's parents: Mato and Slava [Ivelja] Maricevic. Grandmother's parents: Jozo and Kata [Sutic] Sagor. They were all born and died on the Isle Lastovo, the Maricevic family having lived there since 1459.

Thanks Since this is the declaration of intention, was by chance the name of the ship mentioned which brought her to America? I would check the passenger list and see how the name appears on the manifest. That would show the most likely spelling of the name at the time she left Europe. Carpatho-Rusyns and Ukrainians were removed from their villages and resettled in Western and Northern Poland (the former German Territories). Poles were NOT taken from our villages but rather Poles were given our villages and churches. In the index of villages depopulated, the villages you mention are not listed.
