    3. John, Your site is wonderful! I haven't gotten far enough along to use some of your information, but sure hope to make it there. I just requested church records from Chicago. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I might find information on great-grandparents through the archived wedding information for my grandparents in 1879. It's a slow process. People like you make it easier. Thanks, Elaine Searching: SLEPICKA a/k/a SLEPICA a/k/a CHICKEN (translation) and HRUSKA/HRUSKOVA/HRUSKY a/k/a PEAR/PEARY (translation) Bohemia, b. 1856, immigrated 1868, married Chicago 1879. 3. Hello! I am searching for any information about my grandparents: George KEZELE, born in 1884; and Frances GASPARAC, born in 1888, both from Delnice, Croatia. George Kezele's parents were Anton KEZELE and Margaret JURESICH. I know that several relatives were left behind when George and Frances came to the United States in the early 1900's. Thanks for any help-I am at a dead end with this. --Mary Glenn e-mail: [email protected] Researching: FRECHETTE, CLARK, WRIGHT, PROUTY, ST. JEAN KEZELE, GASPARAC (GASPERICH), JURESICH

    1. Vondra surname
    2. Hi - I happened to run across your question about the surname of VONDRA which was answered by someone in Prague. I am of Czech descent (100% actually) and have been interested in genealogy for over ten years. My gr. grandmother's maiden name was Vondra. She was Anna Vondra, born about 1845 in the village of Zvestovice, which is east, southeast of Prague. Her parents were Jan and Magdalena (Marek) Vondra. Anna Vondra married Frantisek Picha (also spelled Pycha) in 1868, and they emigrated to America in 1874, settling in Omaha, NE, where my grandfather (Frank Pycha) was born. She may have had a brother named Jan Vondra who also settled in NE. I have seen a headstone for him in the Bohemian Nat'l. Cemetery in Omaha, and also see his name, along with the birthplace of Zvestovice, in some other booklet. We have not confirmed that this Jan came from the same family, but it seems likely since the village of Zvestovice is very small. Hope this is of some help. Is your name Vondra - or do you have this surname in your family tree? I'd be interested to know if this connects to mine. [email protected]

    1. Re: Surnames JANOVEC, KUBANIS
    2. Cheryl Bell
    3. I am looking for any information on my Slovak relatives. This is what I do know: Joseph Janovec was born abt 1883 in Ruzomberok, Slovakia (Austria-Hungary) and was married to Mary Hiravy. Amongst their children was Stephan Andrew who was born August 20, 1875 in Ruzomberok. He married Mary Anne (Maria) Kubanis (Macko). Mary Anne was born July 6, 1873 in Slovakia, the daughter of Joseph Kubanis and Mary Ana Trik. Stephan & Mary Anne (Maria) emmigrated to the U.S. in 1905, and settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area. They had several children, including my grandmother, Emerie (Emerenciana) Mary Janovec Melvold. I know that there are still Janovec cousins in Ruzomberok, as I was lucky enough to visit them with my grandmother, who spoke Slovak, in in late 1970's. Although we exchange Christmas cards, I do not know Slovak. If any one has information about the Janovecs or Kubanis families, or hints on where to go next, I would greatly appreciate the help.
