Is it possible that someone can help me with information about a family from Gischkau. My great grandparents were: Johan Quidzinsky and Florentine Lemke. I have only one piece of information about them, namely that they had a daughter: Henriette Augustine Johanne Quidzinsky, born 22 AUG 1870 in Gischkau (Kreis Danzig) In the year 1896 Henriette Quidzinsky gave birth to a son in Haderslev in Schleswig. In those days Schleswig was a part of Prussia (just like Gischkau) but today Haderslev is a Danish town. I also wander if Quidzinsky is a common Polish name? Best regards Steen Venbjerg, Denmark.

The -ko ending is clearly Slovak or Ukrainian (although some South Slavic names also have this ending). If we have to chose between Polish and Ukrainian, a Polish origin seems more likely, due to the fact that the surname derives from the (long ago very popular) Christian name Florian which comes from Latin. Researching my family with surname of JANKAY, YONKI, YANKI, YANKAY (so far 4 different spellings). They lived in Snina, Czechoslovakia (when it was still Slovakia). I'm just beginning searching. I have some letters written as late as 1978 from relatives in Slovakia but in Slovak so I can sort of puzzle out what might be names and cities but not relationships... Am looking for my Grandmother's relatives. Gramma will be traveling to Slovakia to find relatives in September and finally asked for help figuring out how to find them as she can't remember enough Slovak to read the letters.
