Recognizing the name means nothing. As someone has already said, they have a tendency to move around and change with the country. If you have already done: census records, marriage records, children's birth/baptism records, land records, draft list, death records, passenger lists, etc., they you can say you have hit a brickwall. In Vera Laska's book "Czechs in America" page 69; Jan Novak, who emigrated from Bohemia to America in 1852, describes his departure and mentions that neighbors accompanied him for three hours ". . .of the way to the river Kamejka. . ." and that ". . .from there I took off by ship to Prague . . ." I have seen the surname Kwidzinski become Germanized to Quide. This surname is a toponym from the city of Kwidzyn just south of the city of Gdansk and is on most maps. Keith A.
