    3. In what language? It is a female name. It would appear to be Latin or English spelling however. From behind the name: JOZAFAT m Polish Polish form of Josaphat, a contracted form of JEHOSHAPHAT. This was the name of a 17th-century Polish saint and martyr who attempted to reconcile the Catholic and Eastern churches. JEHOSHAPHAT m Biblical Pronounced: jee-HAWSH-a-fat Means "YAHWEH has judged" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament he is a king of Judah. YAHWEH m Theology Pronounced: YAW-we A name of the Hebrew God, represented in Hebrew by the tetragrammaton ("four letters") Yod He Waw He, transliterated into Roman script Y H W H. Because it was considered blasphemous to utter the name of God it was only written and never spoken. This resulted in the original pronunciation being lost. The name may have originally been derived from the old Semitic root hwy meaning "to be, to become". http://www.behindthename.com/ Robert Jerin Croatian Heritage Museum Cleveland Ohio http://www.croatia-in-english.com/rj/index.html "Christa Sobczak" <csjs@nospampacbell.net> wrote in message news:TQ2Ga.1858$pT1.186@newssvr19.news.prodigy.com... > Is Josephata a man's or woman's first name? > > Thank you. > If you reply directly to me, please remove nospam from my e-mail address. > > Christa Sobczak > > >
