My husband's ancestors, according to the family history, Niels Peter Kjarsgaard who married Ane Christensen Pedersen traveled from the Nothern part of Denmark. They had three children, the youngest was a Christine Ann (Mette Kerstine). The children were born in Gunderstrop, Aslborg, Denmark, on the Isle of Jutland. The children all carried the surname of Nielsen because the father of Niels Peter went by the name of Anderson Nielsen Kjarsgaard according to older genealogical records. Little christina was the one who sat on the handcart because she was ill and frail. She is my husband's maternal Ancestor. It was when they reached America that Niels Peter Kjarsgaard discarded his name and took the name of Anderson to avoid being drafted into the Danish army since that country had the right to draft any able bodied man regardless of where he lived, as long as he retained Danish citizenship. >From New York they traveled by train to Omaha, Nebraska, it was here they joined Capt. Wooley's Company and this is where we really don't know if they traveled with The Willie Co., or the Martin Co. This is why I was interested in the letter from D.Petty. We looked into the web site that Wes Blair sent (of sinatra@magiclink.com/Vienna/strasse/7222) but we could not find our ancestor there. Thanks again, Lula O'Brien of Layton, Utah
