To: GEN-ROOTERS@rootsweb.com Dear Friends, I have monitored with keen interest a few days now. To get a feel for the general pace and topics. I have found them much to my liking, as we did the L.D.S. Church on June 01,1985, when I, my wife Marie and our son Drew were baptized. We are converts. We were married and sealed to Drew in the Manti Temple, March 07,1992. Marie and I live in Moab, Utah and Drew lives and works in Logan. We are card totin' Mormons and I'll bear my testimony at the drop of a hat. With the hand shaking done I'm hungry. <grin><grin> I started all this for a few words of caution to you folks concerning computer format genealogy programs. I have seen several programs mentioned. Some I know, one too well. My mom said "If you can't say good, say nothing". Well I can't. There is an awful lot of conversation about Family Tree Maker 5.0 , the newest out. A lot of customers are dissatisfied. We started out with Family Origins by Parsons Technologies. We changed to FTM in 1995. This month we moved up to version 5.0.(brand new release) Last week FTM came out with a f-i-x called v5.0a and had to download a fix for WIN95 to help it. IF I had not already invested almost $300.00 in programs and FTM data CD's, I would go back to Family Origins. Family Tree Maker was Banner Blue, was Broderbund and now is "Parsons Technologies". What I am trying to say is, "if you want FTM wait a few months and let them hash out all the problems" I am on their technicians list, of course only hear the complaints, but there have been too many.
