Dear Robert; If you want a place to stay near the FHC the best would be the Best Western Plaza Hotel (Formerly Howard Johnson's). I would rent a car. There is a bus system, but the Light Rail system is currently under construction, (a fact that may frustrate you while in SLC). Also, our Freeways are under re-construction. Welcome to UTAH!
