I HAVE A LOT OF LINKS--HAVE YOU GOT A GOOD ORGANIZATION SYSTEM WORKED OUT FOR KEEPING TRACK OF WHAT YOU FIND AND WHAT LINKS WERE USELESS TO YOU? THAT IS THE FIRST THING TO DO. ALWAYS KEEP A RESEARCH LOG FOR ALL CORRESPONDENCE- HELPFUL OR NOT SO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU GET ANY OF THE INFORMATION YOU DO FIND. IN THE GENEALOGY FORUM- DEAR MYRT HAS A GETTING ORGANIZED PROGRAM THAT I USE AND FIND IT TO WORK VERY WELL. IF YOU START OUT WITH A GOOD SYSTEM, IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF TIME TO ORGANIZE LATER. Finally Get Organized! This is Dear Myrts ideas --even if you have to change it in some ways to fit your needs it will get you started. Have you wrote down all the information for your immediate family? yourself, spouse, children, parents of each spouse, then work your way back. Talk to your realtives and get the stories handed down as well as dates etc. It really adds a lot to it if you get to "know" them. I went to the small town I was born in and sat down at the microfilm printer and clicked to copy any page that had my surnames on it. I found my GGrandmothers obituary that way by accident. If you know where your family is from use the US GenWeb USGenWeb Project they have each state broken down by county and some counties have a lot of info on them- some dont. I have found census records, marriage records, muster rolls from the various wars. Many helpful things in my search. If a location is not helpful write it down so you don't repeat useless actions.
