3. something I do to organize research notes is using a 5 subject notebook. I have a misc. section for e-mail address and URLs and any other info that is generic. And then I have a section for each side of my family and my husbands; labeled mothers side, fathers side , husbands mothers side and husbands fathers side. This has really helped because my notes always got so mixed up I didn't know which notes went to which family. 2. Hi everyone, I have discovered(with the help of friends) that even people on aol can get the instant messenger and the upgrade which enables them to talk in chat rooms with non aol members. This is fantastic!! I want to encourage all of you to get the instant messenger then the up grade so we can have discussions and lessons online instantly. It took 1.81 MB for the instant messenger and 1.41 MB for the upgrade. You can download at: AOL Instant Messenger After getting instant messenger you watch the little ad box on buddy list and click on upgrade. It is Beta.I think it is even better than the chat rooms on aol. You get private room instantly. I will be setting up a room called GenRooters and will be posting a schedule of times I will be there for open discussion, question and answer type format. It will be expanded if there is enough interest to include lessons, and other topics by adding other rooms if necessary. If you have instant messenger and upgrade please send me your screen name for it and I will put you on my buddy list so we can chat. What do you all think? Would you like live chat for question and answers or discussing topics of your choice?? I will be in the room mentioned at 3pm est and 6:30 pm tonight (Wed) I will also be there at 3pm est and 7pm est on Thursday. Just put in the chat box the room name GenRooters and it will take you there. This could really be a great opportunity to help research if you take advantage of it. Dianne

    2. Lynda, I have family from Montreal. I have a cousin, his name is Albert Ladouceur. His mother was my mother's sister. His mother died when he was 2. He came to see my mother about 8 years ago and wanted to know if my mother had pictures of his mother (after his father died they got rid of any pictures of her). My mother had one that I know she gave him, but since she died I found a lot of them. Him by himself and him with his mother and grandparents. I have tried to find him for 4 years. All my mothers family live in Montreal. I've called many people in Montreal, but so far I haven't gotten any information. I guess it's because I don't speak French. Most of the just hang up on me. I guess it's because they don't speak English, or at least don't understand my English. My mother went to Canada to visit her family many years ago. The names I have that might still be around are Lucien Claude Berube, his sister Suzanne Micheline (Berube) Desjardins. Her Husband name is Oscar Guy. They should be in there 50's now. The last address I have for them is, 6219 Drolet, Montreal. Claude last address was 11 Ave. Rosemont Apt 11 Montreal (P2 I don't know if this means anything) I'm not sure they live there anymore as these address are at least 10 years old. I was wondering if you could tell me the best was to get help on finding any of them. I know Albert would love these pictures of his mother. His mother's name was Dorothy Simonne (Bedard) Ladouceur. She died January 23, 1957. Her sister, my mother name was Yvette (Bedard) Coltrin. She lived in California. My name is Eugenie (Coltrin) Wilson. I would so much love to hear from any of my family on my mother's side. I know her mother, father, grandparents, and her only sibling, her, sister, have all died. Thanks for any help you can give me. Love Jeanie

    3. Dear Diane, You probably haven't heard from some of us because we know we are so bad at our organization! Been doing genealogy for 25 years and only recently finally caught on to the idea of copying the title page of the book; the suggestion to add the library and date are great -- have to implement that next! BUT, I hope and think there's a lot of us out there who have this great file system, but everything doesn't fit into it. So then there's the suitcase you took back East filled with notes on this family. Then there's the box filled with copied land records from the SL FHC on another family. . . And then there's your husband's family lines piled on top of the computer. . . Anyway, I have appreciated everyone's many ideas. I think the bottom line is what one person suggested, LDS researchers usually wear many many hats (was just released Sunday as primary president after almost 3 years), have seven active children, two grandchildren, quilt for a hobby, and have a huge garden & can & freeze everything, etc. etc. etc. and I have seven other PAF files on my computer of ward members I am actively helping get their genealogy done! It's a good thing the Lord blesses our efforts, and I know we all try hard! Sherrie Wieland

    3. When we were in SLC in July, we stayed at the Executive Suites (or a similar name) at 3rd W. and North Temple. It was 59.00 a night for a double, two queen beds. It was okay. There is a Travelodge even closer on N. Temple that is about the same price. That is where I plan to stay the next time. After all, you don't spend much time there anyway. I don't know about public transportation there. The roads are a mess. Don't travel around anymore than you have to. You can probably drive up to the U fairly easily, but you might want to look into finding a route that does not involve a freeway. The freeways and exits are all torn up getting ready for the Olympics. Good luck. 3. There is public transportation however it is a wait to get some places. If you are not packing much of anything you may get by with the buses. However, you may need to transfer a few times which can cause some headaches. The shopping in downtown can be done at either of the two malls there across from Temple Square. I would recommend if you want to spend as much time as possible at the FHC a rental would be best. There is a bus that goes from street North temple out to the airport if you can turn your car in and leave from there. The lower priced hotels/motels are not right downtown. Just a little farther out and not always convenient to the bus lines. Some motels have courtesy buses/vans but may not go exactly where you want to go. With all the construction on the highways it can get a lot slower going anywhere.
