thank you for the reminder
LOL, I love it. Thanks for making me laugh, I really need it, this morning. I was just wondering, I used to receive a lot of genealogy mail each day, now it seems like I dont get much at all. I'm new at this, is that why? Thank you and have a good day Michele
The ARMSTRONG list forwarded this. I thought you might recognize yourselves in the following lines. YOU KNOW YOU'RE TAKING GENEALOGY TOO SERIOUSLY IF ... You are the only person to show up at the cemetery research party with a shovel. To put the "final touches" on your genealogical research, you've asked all of your closest relatives to provide DNA samples. You were instrumental in having "non-genealogical use of the genealogy room copy machine" classified as a federal hate crime. Your house leans slightly toward the side where your genealogical records are stored. You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy, and the U.S. Postal Office immediately laid off 1,500 employees. Out of respect for your best friend's unquestioned reputation for honesty and integrity, you are willing to turn off that noisy surveillance camera while she reviews your 57 genealogical research notebooks in your home. The armed security guard, however, will remain. You plod merrily along "refining" your recently published family history, blissfully unaware that the number of errata pages now far exceeds the number of pages in your original publication. During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George. The most recent document in your "Missing Ancestors" file is a 36-page contract between you and Johnson Billboard Advertising Company. Ed McMahon, several t.v. cameras and an envelope from Publishers Clearing House arrive at your front door on Super Bowl Sunday, and the first thing you say is, "Are you related to the McMahons of Ohio?" "A Loving Family" and "Financial Security" have moved up to second and third, respectively, on your list of life's goals, but still lag far behind "Owning My Own Microfilm Reader." A magical genie appears and agrees to grant your any one wish, and you ask that the 1890 census be restored. -------------------------------------------------------------------- John D. Since this list is about helping us to do our family histories, I thought it might be of some interest to the list if I reminded us that September 21, marks a very important day. For you church history buffs, it was that day that Moroni appeared to Joseph. " Moroni was the last of a long line of historians who had made the record that is now before the world as the Book of Mormon" I am sending this reminder now so you have time to read the rest of the story.... It is in the 2nd Section of the D&C. "and he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers".... I will be saying a special thanks for the blessing that was repeated three times that night and recorded in three verses..... I know that pronouncement changed my life. I hope this time of year finds the promises and blessings of the Fathers in your homes.... I all ready know your hearts are turned toward them... Just thought this might give you pause for thought... Dear Connie, I didn't see your private e-mail address, so sorry to bother the whole list, but YES, I think the indexes would be helpful to me. I'm sure you won't have time before you leave, but if you send me your address, I will e-mail you the names I am searching for and they'll be there when you get back. MUCHO THANKS! Sherrie Wieland swieland@jeffnet.org
I have the index to 1850, 1860, and 1870. Would that help you? I am going to be gone 9/18-9/30. Would someone on your list be willing to do a lookup? I saw the mention of the IGI. I don't know if it would apply in this case. I'm searching for a Willie/Wiley (probably William) PAUL/PAULL, b. abt. 1805. He m. in 1829 to Rebecca BIGS in Robeson Co. NC. I can't find him prior to this and can't determine his father. Any help appreciated. Many thanks in advance for any help. Linda

Thanks for the info, Bill. It is too bad they aren't considering putting the Family History Centers on line, instead / too. The time to find out whether a particular name has been done would be before we went to the temple. Standing in line at the new name booth is not the time to find the card I have in my hand is not valid! That would be very disappointing! Do I bring a few with me, in case the first 1 or 2 'bounce'? I am sure that many of the names that I submit have already been done. But, since I don't know which, I submit them anyhow. I believe that it is not my call to make, just as it isn't my call as to whether they are 'ready' or whether they will accept. I just do the work that I can do. I attended our Region Priesthood meeting yesterday where Apostle Richard G Scott was the presiding priesthood holder. A question and answer session was opened toward the end of the meeting. A member posed the question to Elder Scott concerning the duplication of ordinance work with the updated editions of the IGI not coming but about every two years. Elder Scott said the brethern specicially President Hinckley were aware of this concern and the first phases of a plan to have the temples 'online' (my verbage here) with Salt Lake so as names are checked in (my term again) at your local temple a check will be done with up to date data check to see if it was done yet. Thought I'd share this very insightful glimpse of behind the scenes work our leaders are doing. Bill Gatchell San Antonio, TX
