In our LDS library in Montreal, Canada, we tell everyone that the film can't be bought. All you have to do is call the Mormon church itself, not the libraries. They will tell you fast enought if you can directly purchase. I would not go through a library. Along the lines of surnames for given names, it really throws me to find that with unrelated lines. For example a name like Chapin Woodworth. Both are surnames I research but in my ancestry they didn't marry. For just a minute I think I've made a discovery! I do like unusual first names. That really helps track people. How about Galutia, Selah and Cirila for men and Salphira, Zillah, Waity and Halliet for women? Does anyone out there know if the microfilms in the SL FHL can be bought for an individuals own use? I know all about privacy laws etc., but the ones I am interested in are old parish records from Czechoslovakia. ??? Joan
Hello, I posted the address for this yesterday for the lady that is starting it up. She accidentally sent me the wrong url. Sorry to all that have been interested and haven't been able to get in. The correct url is http://www.planetall.com Maureen
Dear Rootsweb, I have been reading with interest about the CD lists of various research data bases. Either I skimmed through too quickly and missed the info or it dribbled out of my ear while I slept, but, where do the average Jane Does' get ahold of these little gems? Are they international in scope? Specifically, do they contain information from Europe and Russia? Are they available on-line? Do you have to buy them? Do the Family History Centers have these? If this litany of queries hasn't sent you to an asylum, I would appreciate any and all assistance rendered in this matter. Thanks to all of you and Happy Autumn! Hi, When I first started receiving the list . I saw a posting on how the Social Security System was determined and how each state was given it's own code and series of identifying numbers I found it quite informative and useful. The only bad part is I didn't copy it and now it is gone from my memory. Would the person ,who posted it, as a point of information, Please, Please would you kindly post it again Thanking you in advance, Beatrice.
>Someone make a suggestion!! Dianne, Was anyone able to help the lady that needed information on the following? Subject: [WARNER-L] MORMON Warners Does anyone have knowledge of the family which immigrated to Salt Lake City in the Handcart company listed below? Edmund Ellsworth Company Roster (First Company) Left Iowa on June 9, 1856 and arrived in Salt Lake City on September 26, 1856 Warner, James (60), wife and family Warner, Ann (49) wife Warner, Sarah Ann (14) Note: This is the only Warner entry found on these rosters of the 10 handcarts listed.
I have found it very common in the research to find a child with the mothers maiden name as a first name. My dad was named after both his grandfathers. A lot of time brothers and sisters named their children for their siblings too. Strange how the naming patterns go sometimes. Dianne
HI, I have not heard of any response to the query--anyone else?? Dianne
Hi Everyone, We all need to start posting something!! Don't you have any questions or comments about genealogy you want to make?? Maybe a Roll Call?? Someone make a suggestion!! Dianne
My husband's ancestor was the FIRST to be prosecuted for multiple wives. His first wife decided to divorce him. It was in the papers and I have some of the details. My question is WHEN exactly did the church decide this was wrong and you'd be X'd for doing so? Thomas left UTAH and went to the colonies in MEXICO so he could keep his 2 other wives. Please help me know WHERE to look or just the facts. Please, write to me directly so I won't take up list space from other researchers. In the NEW (guess the year is almost up) RS and Priesthood book you will find Thomas' store on page 227. This was discovered by my husband (this is his line) at church one day and he asked me to find out MORE! How excited I am that he now wants me to help him with his lines too!!!! Yeah! Thanks, texas@morgan.net
To find out if the name you are looking for is on a particular CD, go to this site: http://www.familytreemaker.com/iffintro.html Read the intro, then click on "Try Internet Family Finder Now." Type in the name of interest and in the "Search On" section, unmark all except "Family Archive CDs - More than 130 in the Collection!", then click on search. If you don't find what you are looking for, then try again under alternate spellings. Once you have found an entry of interest in the index, then to get free lookups in the CD-ROMS, and the additional details show therein, go to this internet site: http://web.mountain.net/~wfmoney/cd/ They do have a limit of one CD and two names per CD per day. They usually respond within 1-2 days and the service is free.
