6 November 1998 FROM: Ken Appleby Hello again! I just realized that I didn't mention the name of John Francis Appleby's mother, who was, I believe, from Scotland. Her name was Jane Wishart, or Wishard. His father was James Appleby. Thanks much for your willingness to help others. Remember, "when you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God". Regards, Ken Appleby
6 November 1998 That's great news on the British Isles info for me. I am trying to find information on a James Appleby and a Jane Wishart who must have left England in late 1839 or 1840 because they became the parents of my great grandfather, John Francis Appleby, who was born 23 May 1840 in New York of his parents "who had recently arrived from England. Also, your midwest census may show them because they moved to Walworth County Wisconsin with a Newell family. Any help you can give would be MOST appreciated! I have ordered a British Isles Area microfilm, for only $3.75, from the FHC here in San Diego and should have it in a week or so. It covers the period, as I remember, between 1816 and 1851. Thank you, in advance, for any new info that comes to your attention regarding the Appleby name. Ken Appleby kenappleby@aol.com

Kris, Thanks for the information on sending an update to Salt Lake, and the other information you shared. I feel like starting all over since things seem a little messed up since I changed computers and put on the new PAF 3.0. I'm still learning how to use it, and don't know exactly where to start to submit it again. Also, I have to make some changes and I'm still learning how to do that. I should practice what I teach, which actually is taking most of my time. I just don't seem to get ahead of it! Of course, I'll still keep trying. Thanks again. Hi All, I got my cd set in for the British Isles. The other is backordered to at least the 25th of this month. It includes information on Ireland and Scotland which is great for me. I still have to learn to use it but have to find out who was there then- most of my info is on this side of the atlantic. I will start snooping a few of the names I got for the exchange and if you have ONE or TWO names (so i am not overwhelmed ) I will look them up on the discs and let you know what it says. I also have a CD that covers the 1830 census index in the mid us states. Give me a few days after you send names as I may get a bit busy :-) but if you dont hear from me within a week - send me a reminder as I am forgetful :-) Dianne
Hi CathyV! Welcome to Gen-Rooters. Hope you'll enjoy this list. I've subscribed to it for about a year now, and I can tell you that it's my favorite list. The people are very willing to help and there's a wonderful spirit about it at times. As I read over your list, I didn't recognize any of our surnames matching up, but since you say you're new to internet research, I'm wondering if you're familiar with the surname lists? I belong to several and have found some wonderful information that way. You have to realize that the information you receive is not a primary source, but sometimes if you get the information, you can go and find the primary source documents really easy because you then know where to look! Why I'm writing this is because of your HIGGINS surname. I have a HUGGINS surname....which isn't going very fast! But, in my research, I keep coming across things with the HIGGINS name. So, makes me think that you'll find lots of information on this line on the internet. If you aren't familiar with surname lists, write me back and I'll get you going in the right direction. My best to you and your research! Annette Nelson in snowy Utah (we woke up to 12" this am!!!!) P.S. We have some children the same age: I have a son who is a missionary in Brazil; a senior, a freshman, and a 6th grader--all boys! About 1-1/2 years ago when my oldest son (missionary) left home to go to school at West Point (army--another similarity!), I was beside myself. When a ward member suggested that I do some genealogy, I tried it. It didn't fill the void in my life, but it really helped. Now, I'm hooked!
Hi everyone! I am new to internet access and also to searching for genealogy information. Please bear with me as I bungle around. My name is Cathy Vancour and I live in Sharpsburg, Maryland. Right near the Antietam Battlefield (from Civil War fame) It's a beautiful part of the country and I love it here. We have been in the church for 20 years now. I have dabbled with genealogy off and on for years, but now I have a little more time to devote to searching my roots. I'm concentrating on my maternal side who are all from Scotland as far as I can tell at the moment. Paternal side is Poland and I haven't really even attempted to find info on that side. Here is list of the surnames that I am looking for: ANDERSON, Jessie <1847> <Brechin,Angus,Scotland> BAIN, Donald 1774 Wick,Caithness,Scotland (some came to USA but I have their info) BREMNER, Catherine <1778> Wick, Caithness, Scotland COGHILL, David <1752> Latheron, Scotland GUNN, Anne <1768> Latheron, Scotland GRAY, William 1844 <Brechin,Angus,Scotland> KANE, Michael <1847> Birdshouse,Lasswade,Scotland HIGGINS, Mary <1851> Birdshouse,Lasswade,Scotland SHEARER,Catherine <1845> Wick,Caithness,Scotland DEUCHART, Alexander 1835 Wick,Caithness,Scotland SINCLAIR, Barbara <1819> Wick,Caithness,Scotland These are all birth dates or <approximate> dates. I was wondering if these broadcasts are something which happens on a regular basis. Could someone tell me what their primary aim is, i.e. for increase the knowledge of the volunteers at the Centers, to encourage members to use the Centers or a spiritual uplifting of spirits with a strong religious overture. Brenda
Hi Listers, I am looking for David R. SIMPSON born 3-14-1882 in Atchison County Missouri died 11-25-1909 in Hebron Nebraska. I am looking for William N. ELLIS born in New York state in 1843 and died in Page County Iowa in 1935. I am looking for John W. Watson born 1848 died in Page County Iowa in 1922.

The purpose of the Satelite Broadcasts is usually to give the FHC workers and pat on the back. It also lets the Priesthood know what is really going on in the Family History Department and in their wards/stakes. It gives any new direction that Salt Lake wants the centers to go. For volunteers in the FHC it lets them know the big picture of how/why Family History is important. Many centers have Volunteers that are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it helps them understand what is going on above the local area and how important they are. Thanks Kris
With SLC doing the Broadcast any dish that is set up to receive the churchs signal sound get the broadcast. I do not think that the ward sound have any problem getting the broadcast on Sunday. Good luck and have fun.... K
