    2. The CD, "LDS Emigrant Roster and Voyage History" has a list of the Handcart Pioneers and will also cross reference that to the ship on which they came and a history of the voyage. It is available at Deseret Book and other LDS Bookstores. It is in the Salt Lake Genealogy Library and at BYU. I believe there is also a book on the Handcart Rescuers. Grant Davis

If you are in Salt Lake City area, you might check with Sam Weller who carries old books, and Seagull, and also Deseret Book who could order it for you. But before you order it you might want to visit the Family History Library and they may have it there. It is worth a try. Some of my husband's ancestors came with a handcart co, but we haven't been able to find that Company. We have some interesting stories of our pioneers and would be nice if we found the right book too., It was one of the twocompanies you mentioned. 3. Family tradition of my friend says that an ancestor was one of the teamsters who participated in the rescue of the Willie and Martin Handcart company. There is supposedly a reference in a book by Nephi Anderson that names the rescuers. The name of the book is possibly "History of the Church." Does anyone know where I could find this book or know of any other reference that might help. I have recently moved to SL area and my friend has asked for my help. If this can be verified, it will be her Christmas gift to her parents. Any ideas where to start? Thanks, Heidi ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 3. I noticed Char Kibbie put Morse in NY on her list of names. The Morse family genealogy is quite well researched, and if you tie in to Peter Morse of New York, you will find TONS of information in the Ancestral File and IGI at the Family History Center. (The Morse family married into the Sabin's and they're also well documented) My ancester is Sarah Morse, daughter of Peter Morse. You're welcome to contact me privately, and I could tell you if your name is in my PAF and I could attach a GEDCOM to you. Sherrie swieland@jeffnet.org

    1. [GEN-ROOTERS-L] SCOTTISH CIVIL REGISTRATION LOOKUPS
    2. Barbara McArthur Jones
    3. Hi there all, I am VERY fortunate in that I have within a 15 minute drive from my home here in Melbourne, Australia, a FHC that specialises in Scotland, and where I am a FHC. We have the Scottish Civil Registration Indexes for BDM's available these begin in 1855 - so please no enquiries prior to that date. I am willing to do lookups on the indexes for you if you wish. Please, no more than an initial 5 year search, and give as much information as you can. All I will be able to do is give you the names and the reference number, and in the case of an event being before 1875 the film number, so you can order it in to your local FHC. From that you will be able to view and possibly order a copy of the original certificate. I also have the complete set of IGI etc here at home (our chapel is being renovated, and there was no place to put the Temple Ready Station, soooo as I have a security system installed and three dogs, and am a ward FHC, my bishop asked me to look after the Station, whoopee!!!!) you would be surprised at the amount of research I have been able to do in the comfort of my own home - and at the number of names I have got ready for the Temple. Regards, Barbara PS: PLEASE put in the subject line the following BARBARA - LOOKUPS.

    1. [GEN-ROOTERS-L] A Poem/Story on Genealogy
    2. Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray; It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tomestones, It leadeth me into still court houses; It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records and ship's passenger lists for my surname's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries and microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement, For a strong urge is within me; The curiosity and motivation they comforteth me. It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents; It anointest my head with burning midnight oil, My family group sheets runneth over. Surely, birth, marriage and death dates shall follow me all the days of my life; and, I shall dwell in the house of a family-history seeker forever.
