Hi Eunice, The B stands for his mother's maiden name: Bloomfield. How much do you know about him and how much do you want to know? My maiden name is Jervis and I have a book (part of the book anyway) with some of his genealogy in it. It also has an article on his career. I also have a book "John B. Jervis, An American Engineering Pioneer" by F. Daniel Larkin that talks all about his career. Port Jervis, NY (very beautiful town, by the way) was named after him. John b. 14 Dec 1795 (probably in Huntington, Suffolk, New York) m. 3 Jun 1834 to Cynthia Brayton m 2nd 16 Jun 1840 Eliza R. Coates d. 12 Jan 1885 He is the son of Timothy & Phebe (Bloomfield) Jarvis...I have dates and children on them. Timothy is the son of Jonathan and his 2nd wife Charity White or Whites. Jonathan is the son of William (my 10th great grandfather), who is the son of Jonathan, who is the son of Stephen. I have more info on most of these people, however, I have not checked the veracity of this book. I will be leaving this afternoon for a Thanksgiving trip, and will be back home on Saturday. Let me know if you want more info. Beth Perazzo<glenbeth@phonewave.net> "Eunice M. Young" wrote: > > A quick question for you knowledgeable New Yorkers. What does the "B" stand > for in John B.
