Hi All, I am making a one time posting to advise anyone interested in helping preserve the terminus to the Erie Canal known as the Commercial Slip -- in Buffalo. A website has been set up to voice your support and leave us a message of (hopefully) support. The area is under current renovation/demolition/improvements. When recent digging began, various sites of historical significance were uncovered such as the original walls to the Commercial Slip, an original Red Medina Sandstone Street network and the actual interior walls of a subbasement establishment which doubled as a stop on the underground railroad. There are no current plans to keep most of these sites in their original condition. Markers and replicas are in the proposed plan.
