I recently purchased a copy of the "Early New York State Census Records 1663-1772". In this book there is a census for the township of Guilford in Cumberland County in the year 1772. My problem: I have found a Guilford Township in NY but I can find no record of their ever being a Cumberland Co in NY. There is however a Cumberland Co PA and Guilford Twp PA although Guilford Twp PA is not (nor ever was that I can determine) in Cumberland Co PA. Are you confused yet?
