    3. - I have been meaning to post this query. What is the NEW YORK SHIFFLER CLUB? Would like to receive any information pertaining to it, and of Lorin D. CHAPIN. Would anyone know where the original copy of this memorial speech could be? It looks like to me it could be minutes of a meeting. One of my ancestors, Lorin D. CHAPIN received a very nice memorial speech (an old typewritten copy) from the NEW YORK SHIFFLER CLUB, which I've included as follows: At a special meeting of the New York Shiffler Club, held on the 22nd day of April, 1848, Edward Green, Esq., offered the following preamble. Whereas, an all wise providence has seen fit to remove from among us our well beloved friend, Brother and Compatriot, Lorin D. Chapin, Esq., late editor of the Daily Times, Therefore be it Resolved, That we, the members of the New York Shiffler Club, regard the death of our worthy and esteemed associate, Lorin D. Chapin, Esq., as a great and irreparable loss, and that while we bow with submission to the decree that has bereft us forever from his invaluable services, we desire to place on record this feeble testimony of our high admiration of his character, our gratitude for his many years of unrewarded labor in our cause and our deep regret that he was not lived to witness the eventual triumph of those glorious principle to which his life was devoted. Resolved: That we offer our sincere condolence to his bereaved wife and family, and would mingle our sorrow with theirs in the loss they have sustained. Resolved: That a copy of these resolutions, properly attested and accompanied by a suitable letter be transmitted to the widow and family of our decease friend. Whereupon putting the motion the President requested each member of the club that approved the resolution to rise which was acceded to by every one in the room. It was further resolved, that the members of the club wear the usual badge of mourning on all public occasions for the succeeding six months. Resolved, that the foregoing resolutions be published in the Gazette & Times and the American Sentinel. David S. Hunt, President Chas. Smithson Wm. S. Ross, Vice President John C.
