    2. Ah, yes, while we're talking about Kings and Queens county, how about that lost province, Dukes county? Dukes county was once a part of NY and was run by the Mayhew family in what was considered a dictatorial manner, causing at least at one point, what was called the "Dutch Rebellion". This rebellion was put down from NY, but in the meantime, aid was sought from the province of Mass. Nothing every happened of the request and the Mayhews regained their stranglehold upon the county. 20 years later in 1692/3, the govt. of Mass. called for an election of "qualified" (landholders of minimum worth) elctors to send representation to Boston. Through a rather Byzantine process, the elections were held, representation was sent to Boston, Albany eventually acquiesced, and Dukes county NY became a part of Dukes county Mass.
