    3. Well, ya got me! The only reason I can think of is renewing their vows, perhaps within a different religion. Or, if there was some property dispute and they couldn't prove they were married to begin with (it wasn't like you could just mail off a request to the MA back in the 1850's or a church, for that matter). I'm hoping that you folks could help me to explain the following: Thomas and Sarah Ormandy got married in Ã…ugust 1845 in London England. They had 3 children that were born in England. They moved to Utica, NY and had a duaghter, Victoria Ormandy born in 1851. In 1852, Thomas and Sarah then got remarried in Rome NY on June 13, 1852. Does anyone know why a family would do this remarriage thing in the mid-1850's? Was this a common practice?
