    3. Write to the Army, Air Force, or whatever, give them the SSN, and ask for their military file (assuming you are related and therefore entitled to the information). Or, alternatively, write to NARA, and get the form they provide for requesting information on a person. Bear in mind, though, many of the post 1900 military records were burned in a fire in the early 1970's so there are a lot of missing records for that whole time period.
