    3. i thought ten farms got it name from the original 10 farms that were formed in the area after the english took over new york from the dutch approximately 1680. it was settled mostly by connecticut yankees . my family was TOMPKINS and they had one of the 10 farms. this area soon became known as eastchester.if one looks at the census for eastchester for 1710 (it's 1 page long ) you get the names of the early settlers.this census is from "early new york state census records 1663-1772 " and is found on page 170. it also gives the age of each. the census lists 61 white males by age and first and last name. it also states " in the town of est chester and its districts are male christians 153- female do 136: male slaves 17 - female do 8 - and men from 16 year old to 60 as followeth, viz " it then lists the 61 males. jim cooros east meredith ny
