Carl, My experience is to go directly to the Town Clerk where the vital event occured and request a search. I must admit that I have had many various responses from telling me to go to you know where (kidding, Albany of course,) to being EXTREMELY helpful, and oh by the way do you need this person? The county does not keep the origianal records but the town clerks do. I have not had much luck through the mail with tc's but an in person attempt is usually good.
