I recently found one of my ancestor's in something cited as "New York Adjutant General's Office Index of Awards on Claimes of the Soldiers of the War of 1812, Albany: - , 1860. Accompanying information states that "the original declarations of claims from which the index was compiled are on file in the Bureau of War Records maintained by the Division of Military and Naval Affairs, Public Security Building, Albany, New York, 12206." Does anyone know if copies of the original claim file documents can be obtained from this or some other address? I would guess the information above might date from the early 1960s. If so, it seems to me the files might have been transferred to the NYS Archives by now. But then again, perhaps not. If someone has recently requested and received similar documents from New York State, I would be interested in knowing the steps you followed and the cost. Thanks, Dave Simonds
