You'll also see the land sale transaction record online at Illinois Public Domain Land Tract Sales http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/data_lan.html -- use the "search" link, and enter LAST (surname) ONLY. He's in the list of GRANTs. It's hard to estimate the draw of "cheap" land...
