    3. Dear Gary: You need to apply to the Town Clerk where the event took place. Within each county in NY State there are Town subdivisions (in other states this subdivision is commonly called "township"). For instance, in Nassau County there are three Town subdivisions: Hempstead, North Hempstead, and Oyster Bay. All smaller villages, hamlets, etc. fall within one of these towns. So, you need to find out the "Town" name of the place that they died is located. You then write to that Town Clerk for the vital record you are interested in. Best regards. Nancy.
