    1. WIETING
    2. Searching for any information on the surname WIETING in the late 18th, early 19th century. I have only seven references to this surname: 1. Rev. Johann Christoph Wieting pastor St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Minden, Montgomery Co., NY - perhaps beginning in 1804. He md. Maria Magdalena Beyan, and died 17 Feb 1817. (ref: church records). 2. Rev. John Christopher Wieting pastor of "The old Geisenberg German Lutheran Church located near Hallsville, N.Y." (ref: Herkimer Co. rootsweb site) 3. Rev. John Charles Wieting (1757-1817), and son (4.) Rev. Philip of Janesville, or Hyndsville, Schoharie County, NY. (ref: another researcher, RAD) 5. Johann Henrich Wieting and his wife Maria were having children baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church at Fort Plain, Montgomery Co., NY around 1820. (ref: church records) 6. Johann Martin Christian Wieting b. 1832 Germany, came to US 1854 and went "straight" to Wolcottsville, Erie Co., NY "where there were other WIETING's residing from much earlier". (ref: another researcher, WWL) 7. The 1867 will of George Lighthall refers to Jacob Wieting neighbor in Minden, Montgomery Co., NY. (ref: Herkimer Co. rootsweb site) References 1, 2 and (maybe) 3 are likely the same person, but I don't know how the others tie in and that's all the data I have. Any additional references or tidbits would be greatly appreciated. Ed Harrison EJHarrison@compuserve.com
