    3. Thanks, Marty, for the info on the American Antiquarian Society -- Worcester isn't hard to get to -- not like having to go into Boston - I don't think anyone out there can envision the tremendous resources at Indiana's Allen County Public Library - Genealogy Dept. They, too, have originals of many, many family histories and rare books galore. As far as the periodicals are concerned, I believe they will still copy from their materials and I believe, they do so at a very reasonable charge. There used to be a form to fill out for out-of-towners -- providing space for 5 requests on one sheet. The larger libraries in the USA have the PERSI program's wonderful indexes in hardbound volumes -- PERSI - stands for Periodical Resource Index. They used to issue a new volume each year, but since most people have a computer now, I'm not sure if they still do this. All the volumes are available on the Genealogy Floor at the library in Ft. Wayne. I believe the indexes are all accessible via the many in-house computers. I was in the Syracuse Genealogy Library on Salina St. three years ago and noticed the Indexes there. But, I warn you, you can spend a whole day just looking at the Indexes -- you'll come away with a mile-long list of articles you will want to order. Check the larger libraries in your area for these PERSI Indexes. Shirley Farone My huge website highlighting Jefferson County, N. Y. Website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~twigs2000
