Some years ago while researching our Dutch ancestors in early New York, information was found, in more than one place, that states our Anna Gerder/Garter [so often mistakenly called Anna (Nancy) Gartrant for some reason] was a cousin of Martin Van Buren's mother. I have just done a bit of web searching but cannot seem to come up with much information on the mother of Martin - has anyone done extensive research on this family? Anna Gerder/Garter was the d/o Robert Gerder/Garter and Elisabeth Cromwell; born 03 June 1722 in Schenectedy. It would be interesting to make a connection, but we, of course, wonder how true this "legend" really is. I took a quick check of the Vanburen Genforum but there are way too many messages to try to find someone who may actually be discussing this topic. Olive California
