Hi my name is Michelle Robinson, I am researching my husbands family , the Colegates of St. Lawrence Co. New York . Joseph Colegate was from England born in 1907 , He and his wife and children are listed in the 1840 census St. Lawrence Co. By 1850 this family moved to Southern Indiana, This is where I found out his wife's name was Sarah and possibly Sarah Scott since there is an Elizabeth Scott also living in the household, I believe might have been her mother. Sarah died in 1858 the children are listed as mother from New York which leads me to believe they married in New York. Where would I find records of their marriage most likely around 1826, since their first son was born in 1827 . I have not made any connection to the New York Colgates ,of the soap Co. or the Maryland Colegates who also migrated to Northern Indiana, both of these families came to the US at an earlier time. The children of Joseph and Sarah were Joseph, Nathan, Christopher, Jesse , Caroline and Michael . Any help with this family would be appreciated Thank you Michelle
