I have been trying for a long time to find my aunt. I am sure she is deceased but I have no info other than her name and that she lived on Long Island, NY. Anybody have any ideas for me. I know she was still alive in the early 1960's and I think she may have passed early 1970's. Does anyone have access to city directories for Suffolk and/or Nassau counties? I am making them my starting point. 1. anyone that lived after 1937 has a SSI number, and you can search it on ancestry.com and a few other websites. Not only will it give you her ssi # but also her approx date of death (i believe) and the zip code of her last address. 2. there are many many map sites on the internet that you could use to look this up. 3. do u know which cemetery she might be buried in? they would be able to look her up ABC wise and then u would have a date of death 4. if u know the cemetery then call them they will be able to give u the date of interment and the funeral home at least. 5. even if a funeral home goes out of business they still hand their records on to the next guy unless there is a fire. 6.once u get a date of death then u need to check newspapers for obit.s 7. u can also write to the town and get a death certificate. 8.the local libraries have directories u can contact them. but again it depends on where she lived, as to which library u would contact. 9. do a search for her on www.google.com 10.inquire with other relatives and see what bits and pieces u can put together on what you do know. kristina www.nyvagenealogy.homestead.com free advice genealogy chats thurs 7pm est.
